Imagine
being able to control a lot electronic devices with the touch of a button? Or
being able to track anything, from car, people and other from a particular
spot? That is what internet of things brings to the table. A lot of things now
have WiFi connectivity, allowing them to connect to the internet and each other
allowing them to share data.
An Example
of IoT is being able to stay at work and view what is happening at home through
wireless cameras that would be sending live feeds to your mobile device. Amazon
Blink is an exam of such devices and another example of IoT is having a sensor
in your refrigerator that tells you when it is almost empty so that you
restock, that would be cool, right?
Advantages:
1) It makes
life easier.
2) It means
more learning opportunities in the Field of IT
3) It means
more work opportunities.
4) It means
improvement in Societal Infrastructure.
5) It means
the solving of social economic problem like health care and Education.
Disadvantages:
1) It may
not be accessible to everyone at first.
2) The rate
of illiterate people is high especially in places like Africa.
3) It could
take a long time to fully implement because of illiterate levels.
What are the career paths for those in IoT? To those
who are interested in being a part of this field of Technology, the various
careers are available; Sensors and Actuator Professionals, Cloud Engineers,
Cloud Architect and others. The Salary of those in this field could range from
$52,000 to $170,000 a year, depending on your rank and your occupation in the
field.
